If I should have a daughter

If I should have a daughter
The first thing I will teach her is
No not how to talk
But how to listen

Listen to her voice of reason
Telling her she can achieve anything
That she holds the key to her own destiny
And not the destiny prescribed by society

I will teach her how to express herself
How to use words to communicate her thoughts
Actions to back them up
And not hide her opinions because she’s expected to

I will show her the world
And as much as I’d like to do that in reality
I might have to Improvise with a crash course in geography
And we can explore the planets with our books and imaginations
As I would teach her that books and her imaginations would be her first tool to realization

Of course I won’t forget to teach her of disappointments
And the sometimes cruel reality of expectations
Of how open hearts will sometimes break
And her trust might be on a lost cause

I will have to have the ice cream and chocolates ready
As I let her understand that tears like rain will help wash dirt away
That love as it may will sometimes lead to shattered hearts
But time will slowly but surely mend the parts

She will learn that experiences however bad will make her grow
And like her mother she would gain the strength to overcome all obstacles
My end will only be her beginning
And without me she will go on to become anything
Regardless of her imperfections and her flaws
Because she comes from a lineage of warriors

Overall I’ll teach her of gratitude
How to be thankful
For everything she is and will be
I will teach her of where faith has taken me
And how far she could go if she just believes

The Kid you couldn’t help

By now I must be the kid who committed suicide
A lot of you are probably wondering what went wrong
Well what did you know about me before I committed suicide?

Did you notice how I would stare into thin air?
Thinking of the many places I’d rather be
Did you notice how I would never speak?
Unless necessary and even then I mostly squeak
You probably didn’t
you were part of those people who merely ignored me
Those people who reminded me I was a nobody

No you didn’t say it but you didn’t have to
I could hear it loud enough from your actions
The little laughs at my expense
The assumptions that I can’t speak for my lack of sense
When all I wanted were friends

No you didn’t notice my hate from the lack of love
My rage cause I knew I deserved better
My envy for the people it seemed God loved more
The depression that grew from the realization that I would never get there

You’re probably now wondering why you never noticed
Well the signs were there if you cared enough to look
Maybe you could have changed my mind, maybe you couldn’t
Well no need for regrets
This is only one story of a kid you couldn’t help.

Love Hate

Felt like I was on a new high
Felt the happiness flame up like fire
Even in the dark you were my eternal light
Nothing could have possibly felt this right

It seemed like life was at its blissful peak
And yet I’ve never felt so weak
But it didn’t matter
Cause you were there and I had my happily ever after

But the end came later than sooner
And reality hit with its sad humor
To have gotten so far
But to find out in the end that it was nothing but a farce
To find out I was nothing of importance
More like an actress with a performance

But that’s life you know
With sadness lurking in every hole
And just like everything else
Love buried in all that lies
Still inevitably dies

Perfect Stranger

I may never admit this to you
But I noticed you noticing me
And even from the far distance
You already captivated me

I know better than to talk to strangers
I know of all the possible risks
But if you had walked past me
I may have shocked us both by taking the lead

Much to my relief
You stopped in front of me
And although you said the silliest thing
Just staring at your face filled me with need
After that everything you said became the perfect thing

The Pursuit

People always seem to be chasing after something, money, revenge, love, happiness, material things, success and so on. But there’s ever only a few of us who actually achieve what we set out to get and the reason for that varies, sometimes it’s because we aim to get the impossible or we don’t give our all in achieving them.

I’m pretty sure you already know the importance of having a plan. But right now I’d like to educate you on how to make a well laid plan not just any plan. The thing is our dreams are only as possible as much and as well as we plan for them. To purse the dream is only the first step, to attain you would need more dedication.

The first thing to do as you plan is; know the reason why you have decided to pursue that goal. When I say know the reason, I mean you should have a detailed objective that you’ll met as you attain that goal, the more important you make the dream, the more dedicated you will be to pursue it. Simply put ensure there’s passion behind that dream.

Next, you should do a feasibility test of your dream. How possible is it to achieve such dream, do I have the certain knowledge to attain this dream, can I do it all by myself or would I need to get help. Know the requirements of the dream, it’s not enough to want it, you should know how to get it. For example if you have a desired university, it’s not enough to want to go there, you must know their requirements and try to meet up with it.

Next, have a time span for the achievement to this goal. Schedule yourself, know the different phases in the attainment of your dream and have a certain time allocated to it. This will keep you on your toes so that you don’t procrastinate or become lazy. For example if your dream is to have a doctorate degree by 25 then you know you’d have to make a schedule on when you’d finish Uni then masters then finally PHD at the given time.

Next, make a budget. Most dreams today require money, even when you hope to gain money you would still need money to get money. Make a price list of your dream, each phase of your dream should have a budget. This will help you ensure you have the right capital to undergo your dream and that you don’t get stuck somewhere.

Finally, find all the possible risks that could negatively or positively affect your dream. Have a back up plan when one of the important variables in attaining your dream fails. For example, a bad investment.

But before embarking on all this you must realize that life is very unpredictable and the more you wait for something to happen the possible less it will happen. The more you allow yourself to pursue something form afar, the farther it gets away. Dreaming is not enough, pursue that dream with all you’ve got and attain it before it gets too late!

Creating Solutions

The inability of people to see the overflowing opportunities that surround us is a problem that cannot be fixed by the government, maybe a visit to the optician could help but he’s probably too busy helping people with actual eye difficulties. That only leaves you to help yourself!

Hey guys, so it been a while since I posted something other than a poem but I hope you guys have enjoyed reading it still. I have to apologize for my lack of consistency on my posts but I have been a bit busy lately and was recently offered to blog for someone and it still needs a lot of processing. Once the preparation of the blog is done, I’ll give you all the details and I hope you guys could check it out. Don’t worry that won’t stop my posts on this blog, in fact I have decided to kick it up a notch and try to be more consistent. On that note, I’d like bring everyone’s notice to something that has just recently started to bug me.

As we all know the country has been in quite a state for some time now and it has gotten considerably worse even after attaining the change we then believed would be best for the country, some of us, like me, still harbor a little hope that all these problems we are facing is only momentarily and it will get better. After all it has been less than a year that change has been in power, it certainly won’t happen overnight. That aside one common thing that stands out after a review on Nigeria for over 5 years is the continuous and ever growing problem of job opportunities and the rate of unemployment and after my experience this summer I am now of the opinion that the government aren’t solely to blame for this problem.

The inability of people to see the overflowing opportunities that surround us is a problem that cannot be fixed by the government, maybe a visit to the optician could help but he’s probably too busy helping people with actual eye difficulties. That only leaves you to help yourself! I mean these days we have more problems than solutions and some people have begun to wise up and find solutions to some of these problems and make those solutions profitable so what’s your excuse? A large bunch of us are still complaining that there are not enough jobs out there while for some all it takes is a little browsing on the internet and they find various opportunities that we are clearly blind to and somehow that is the fault of the government? I have come across various young people who irrespective of the countries’ situation have found ways to survive. I mean I know someone who currently joggles  3 jobs at the same time, he’s a real estate agent, recently started a technology company and still has time to work for the government and from what I hear he’s waiting on a teaching job at University of Abuja and he’s just in he’s late twenties. Another has successfully launched her clothing line and is gradually becoming a beauty and fashion goddess and she’s still in the university. Yet another who has gradually began to startup he’s non-governmental organization with a group of other people. The list goes on and on and I’m sure we have come across many of these kinds of people. They found problems that they were looking to solve and found a way to make it profitable, even I have found a problem with the way people view their situations with such lethargy and apathy and decided to write this blog as a solution and some day it may turn out to be profitable but in the meantime blogging has opened doors to something that could be indeed profitable. And of course there are people who still aim for jobs like Doctors and Lawyers but we must understand that we certainly must have unique things to offer whatever hospital and firm we are hoping to work in while we can aim higher and try to establish ours.

Certainly it won’t be easy, but we have to stop complaining and learn to use the internet to our advantage the way other people are clearly doing and stop waiting for the government and even our parents to hand us our future. There are so many problems varying from inefficient agriculture, inadequate technology, to lack of local fashion industries here in Nigeria, and there is certainly need for those on the artistic and creative side so even as we constantly struggle there’d be those beautiful things we’d see and read that could alleviate the pain. There are so many problems to pick from we only just have to care enough to see them.

It’s time we change our mindset, instead of dwelling on the problems we have, we need to start finding solutions to them. There is no law that states we must do it alone, so if you find someone with the same goal or solution as yours, then there’s no reason you both can’t build the solution together. you might think that at least your’re not alone, but don’t be surprised when everyone has something their doing asides you, i suggest you wise up and starting dreaming and start preparing how you are going to achieve that dream.

Frankly it seems I may not stop writing but I have to. This is supposed to be a quick motivational shove to those that need it and I certainly hope you benefit from this.

Why Did I Do It?

Why did i do it?
I didn’t have a choice
I didn’t want to be alone
I couldn’t be the outcast yet again
I needed to do it to be accepted

Now I’m invited to all the parties
I’m no longer a joke
I’m finally worthy of their time
I can never be the old me again
Why did i do it?

I took all the drinks they offered
I took a long drag of that weird stuff, just like they said
I even let him touch me
Why did I do it?

It’s alright if I have to cry alone at night
As long as in the day time i still have friends
As long as they still want me
I’ve given up everything for them
Why did I do it?

Each day i have to do something different
Something to keep me worthy of them
Something they’d praise me for
Something the old me would never think of
I even gave them my body
This is my life now
Why did I do it?

I see them in the distance
I run to catch up with my friends
But the thought keeps nagging
Why did i do it?
What choice did i have

Dissapointments

We learn to love
And we love with all we have
But sometimes all we have is never enough
And love, as we would later learn will sometimes suck.

We learn to open our hearts
And we give those hearts freely with ease
But that sometimes only makes the heart more prone to pain
And open hearts, as we would later learn will sometimes break.

We learn to trust
And we trust so blindly
And that sometimes would only make us fools
And trust, as we would later learn will sometimes be foolish.

And so as you would later see
We must first learn about disappointments
Because then would the hurt, deceit and pain we would inevitably face be more bearable
And disappointments, as we must learn are a prominent part of life.

BLACK LIVES MATTER

We must not let the efforts of those who fought for our freedom go to waste. We are humans and deserve to be treated as such. Black Lives Matter…

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter – Martin Luther King

o-LAST-WORDS-facebook.jpg.cf

The question is what should matter?

I believe it should matter that innocent lives are being taken, it should matter that people have to be cautious because of their skin color or the race they belong too. Worst of all I believe that it should matter that those said to uphold the law and protect the innocent are the ones we should be most cautious of even when guilty of nothing. When we are left to take the laws into our own hands is when they begin to take action on what is right and wrong.

Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves -Abraham Lincoln

2.jpg.cf

If at this age and time we are still left fighting for Black rights and security then what was the point of the efforts and sacrifices of the likes of Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela, Lincoln Alexander, Maya Angelo, Marcus Gravey, Rosa Parks, Zora Neale Hurtson and many more?! What exactly did they risk their lives for? What gospel did they spend most of their lives preaching? Yet years after their long and painful efforts we are still fighting for the same cause, still fearing for our lives, still cant find peace in the place we call home and just all because we have a different skin colour. If you cant see a problem with that then am afriad your humanity needs a check. We must not let the efforts of those who fought for our freedom go to waste. We are humans and deserve to be treated as such.

The idea that some lives matter less is the root of all that is wrong with the world – Paul Farmer

trayvon12.jpeg.cf

All lives matter period. And if we still have to point that out at this advanced stage of the world then we need to question the kind of civilization we live in, we need a find the difference between the babarism that we advanced from and the so called civilization we are in right now. The kind of civilization where the police kill the innocents? Where the innocents are forced to take matter into their hands and become guilty? Where the innocents face punishments for crimes they were moved to commit, while the real culprits are left to continue with this backwards civilization. No one can tell me that they cannot see the problem with this. But we must understand that wrong will always continue to be wrong regardless of the reason it was done. And that to fight viloence with violence will only kill what one intends to acheive with it.

We must stand and fight for what matters the most to us but the fight using our voices will get us farther than violence ever will and with all our limbs intact. – Bolanle Onilogbo

We have been wronged. These people have been wronged. We seek justice and peace and that cannot be achieved by violence. We must fight in a manner that we cannot be silenced, violence only gives them an excuse to have us silenced.
